Fans are speculating that Grande's ensemble is hinting at more comedic acting roles for Grande in the near future
Actress and singer/songwriter Ariana Grande, 32, is set to host Saturday Night Live for the third time on Dec. 20.
In her promo video, featuring Bowen Yang and musical guest Cher, Grande wore a vintage Bob Mackie dress that was originally worn by legendary comedian and actress Carol Burnett. Burnett wore the dress back in 1973 for an episode of The Carol Burnett Show, making the dress over 50 years old.

The dress is made up of brown, gold and orange hues, complete with a high-neck halter neckline. Cascading down from the crisscross halter is a large chevron pattern of the autumnal colors. Grande wore the floor-length gown with a matching shawl draped over her forearms.
For glam, makeup artist Michael Anthony used Grande's brand R.E.M. Beauty to create a bronzed, glowy look complete with a neutral lip, and professional hairstylist Alyx Liu pulled Grande's hair back in her go-to side-part midi bun. The entire look was brought to life by Grande's stylist Law Roach.

Grande posted a BTS video of the promo shoot on her Instagram, as well as a carousel of her ensemble. Included in the carousel is a tagged image of Burnett wearing the Bob Mackie dress. Grande captioned the post "ā” š¼," and received an outpouring of love and praise in the comments.
Fans are speculating that paying homage to Burnett is Grande's way of proclaiming her upcoming career goals. In a previous appearance on the Today show, Grande shared that acting is currently taking the front seat over her singing career. "I really am enjoying acting right now. Whether itās movies or being on stage or a little something here and there, I think thatās currently what Iām most inspired by," she shared. "Iāll still sing, I promise. But yes, right now, thatās currently where Iām at."
Grande's most recent acting role was playing Glinda in Wicked and Wicked: For Good, which was released in theaters last month.
The vintage Bob Mackie piece is also a nice nod to Grande's SNL episode partner Cher, who has long been known as one of the designer's muses and has worn many of his pieces over the years.
Grande's episode of Saturday Night Live is set to air on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 11 p.m. EST.
