Meghan Markle is sharing a piece of advice from Prince Harry that she lives by to get through “really hard days.”
At Tuesday’s Los Angeles screening of Cookie Queens, a documentary about the Girl Scouts that Meghan and Harry executive produced, the Duchess of Sussex participated in a Q&A in which she was asked how she stays motivated through tough moments.
Meghan, 44, said that when she struggles, she recalls a positive quote that was told to her “ages ago” by Harry, who she married in 2018.
“I think so much of it, funny enough, I was thinking about something my husband told me ages ago, because we all go through experiences and life is full of surprises,” Meghan said, according to People.
“But you know, he was a helicopter pilot in the British Army for 10 years. And sometimes on really hard days, once he said, ‘Hey, but my love, you know, even if there’s a storm happening — above the storm, the sun’s always shining.’ ”
Meghan said Harry’s perspective helps her to consider the bigger picture, which “only comes when you think about zooming out a little.”
“So I think when you really zoom out and think, ‘My gosh, how many things have we gone through that have felt hard?’ And then you still get through them,” she explained. “Or how many goals do you think you’re not going to hit? And then you hit them and you supersede them.”

The former Suits star concluded that it was important to remember “that no matter what feels insurmountable, there’s just always that sun shining above it.”
Last year during her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Meghan — who shares a son, 7, and daughter, 5, with Harry — shared another crucial piece of wisdom that she clings to.
“Look, life is full of surprises,” she told Barrymore in March 2025. “I did not expect to meet H and for this to be our love story. I’m very lucky I’m married to the funniest, sweetest, most charming...and he’s an amazing father.”
“I count my blessings because I have him, and also I have a partner who is so supportive of me,” she said.
Meghan then said that when she worked as a nanny during her college years, one of the fathers she worked for gave her a piece of marriage advice that helps to keep her relationship “alive.”
She recalled that the man told her, “When you meet your person one day, I want him to say to you the one thing I said to my wife when we got married, which is ‘I vow to always date my wife.’”
“I told H that when we started dating, and he goes, ‘I vow to always date you,’” she said. “So we have this connection I think because we’re so committed to treating each other the same way you did before you had a ring on it, before it was locked down, when you’re just courting each other and you can see all the good and joy in that butterfly period. And I think that’s what keep things really alive.”
