Mickey Rourke is turning to GoFundMe to "prevent eviction" after his landlord served him a notice to pay the $59,100 in back rent he allegedly owes or vacate his Los Angeles property

Rourke's friend Liya-Joelle Jones created the GoFundMe with his "full" permission; within six hours, it raised more than $1,500 of its $100,000 goal

“Mickey is going through a very difficult time right now, and it’s been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help," Jones said

Mickey Rourke has turned to crowdfunding to avoid eviction after falling nearly $60,000 behind in rent.

Last month, the 73-year-old actor and former wrestler was served a notice to pay the $59,100 in back rent he allegedly owes or vacate his Los Angeles property within three days. Now, he’s asking fans to help raise the sum with a GoFundMe.

Liya-Joelle Jones — a friend and member of Rourke’s management team, per The Hollywood Reporter — organized the fundraiser, which went live on Sunday, Jan. 4. Titled “Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home," the GoFundMe has a stated fundraising goal of $100,000, and raised a little more than $1,500 within the first six hours.

“Mickey Rourke is currently facing a very difficult and urgent situation: he is at risk of being evicted from his home,” the fundraiser states. “Life doesn’t always move in a straight line, and despite everything Mickey has given through his work and his life, he is now dealing with a challenging financial moment that has put his housing at risk.”

The description also states that the GoFundMe “is being created with Mickey’s full permission to help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent eviction.”

"The goal is to give Mickey some stability and peace of mind during a stressful time so he can stay in his home and have the space to get back on his feet,” the fundraiser description continues. “Any donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference. If you’re not able to contribute, sharing this page is also a huge help. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.”

Speaking with THR about the fundraiser, Jones said, “Mickey is going through a very difficult time right now, and it’s been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help.”

Jones did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday.

Rourke was served a notice on Dec. 18 to pay the $59,100 he allegedly owes his landlord, Eric Goldie, in back rent or vacate the property within three days, according to a complaint filed on Dec. 29 and obtained by PEOPLE. The notice — which Rourke allegedly “failed to comply with the requirements of,” per the complaint — was posted on the premises and mailed to him as he was not home at the time to receive it, the documents claim.

The property is a three-bedroom, 1,600-square-foot home, per the property’s listing on Zillow.

According to the filing, Rourke signed the lease in March 2025 for a monthly rent of $5,200, which was later increased to $7,000.

In addition to the sum Rourke allegedly owes in past-due rent, Goldie is also requesting compensation for attorney fees, the documents state. The landlord is also asking for the “forfeiture” of their rental agreement.

Rourke began renting the property shortly before he decided to pursue legal action against Celebrity Big Brother UK over an alleged pay dispute following his controversial exit from the reality show in April 2025. At the time, his manager, Kimberly Hines, addressed the early departure in a statement shared with PEOPLE, claiming that the series had disrespected Rourke by "publicly embarrassing him" and refusing to pay him his dues.

"There’s no question that when Big Brother booked Mickey Rourke, they were fully aware of both his public persona and how it aligned with his Hollywood rebel image," Hines wrote at the time, adding that the show knew the actor's presence would be "explosive, controversial and attention-grabbing — and that’s exactly what they got, and more."
