Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei’s latest reunion at the UK premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has left fans in tears. Tomei played Aunt May, making her first appearance in Captain America: Civil War. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home gave her character an ending that fans found difficult to accept.

Holland and Tomei’s adorable moments from the UK premiere of Brand New Day have fans sobbing. In one of the pictures shared by Variety, Tomei could be seen holding Holland’s face affectionately in both hands as the latter watches her happily. Fans instantly took to the comment section to react to this moment.
A fan wrote, “Aunt May came back from the dead just to tell Peter she’s proud of him.”
Another added, “They’re not even really aunt and nephew yet this feels so family-wholesome.”

In Spider-Man 3, Green Goblin launches a pumpkin bomb towards Aunt May. Although Norman Osborn tries to control his alter-ego, it inevitably takes over, leading to this attack on Aunt May that causes her death. At first, Tomei’s character seems to be a bit okay, but she eventually succumbs to her injuries. Peter Parker holds her in his arms as she says her final goodbye.
In an interview with Variety, writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna revealed why they felt it was necessary to write off Aunt May. “We were at a point where we felt like there needed to be a loss, a sacrifice, that Peter needed to pay a real price for this decision to try to save the villains. I think it became pretty clear to a lot of us that losing Aunt May was the thing that would really drive home the point we were trying to make: making this the movie where Peter Parker experiences the loss that the other ones did in their first movies,” Sommers explained.
