- *Ransom Canyon *showrunner April Blair is telling all about Sidney’s whereabouts after the season 2 finale.

- She also teases why Ellie will be keeping her distance from Yancy moving forward.

- And why Staten and Quinn’s romance is only just beginning after they finally got together.

It’s the question that’s likely on every* **Ransom Canyon* fan’s mind in the wake of that dramatic season 2 finale: where, exactly, is Sidney (Heidi Grace Engerman)?

Yancy’s (Jack Schumacher) spitfire ex completely disappeared after she intimidated Ellie (Marianly Tejada) off a porch and inadvertently sent her into early labor. Sheriff Dan (⁠Philip Winchester) has even warned his officers that Sidney may have adopted a brand new identity and disguise since fleeing the scene. But has she really left Ransom Canyon behind?

“Who knows? The best part is nobody knows,” creator and showrunner April Blair tells **. “I have this vision that she’s in the wind, changed how she looks, and is grifting. She’s like a black widow… She’s deep undercover. Somewhere fabulous though, I’m sure.”

While Sidney “definitely has a presence in season three,” Blair notes that the character is going to be staying offscreen for a while in order to “keep the tension of why Ellie is pushing Yancy away” moving forward.

“It’s not just what happened. It’s the idea that the person who assaulted her is still out there and could still hurt her,” she emphasizes. “And now she has this baby to care for. And so I think keeping Sydney on the run for a while — I don’t know how long — would be really important in season three.”

After her ill-fated interaction with Sidney, Ellie tearfully sent Yancy away, claiming that he naturally attracts a level of danger into their lives that she can no longer ignore following the arrival of their child. But, Blair explains, Ellie’s reasons for shutting Yancy out go much deeper than that.

“Once she has this baby and this thing happens… She always has made decisions from her heart and now, suddenly, there’s this other being,” she says. “And it’s not that she’s pushing Yancy away for herself. It’s for the baby. She feels like he brings this danger. He brought Sydney, and he brought Freddie. It’s not that she blames him, but it’s like he’s a magnet for it.”

It might be the right decision, but that doesn’t make it an easy one. “I think it’s really a decision about just protecting her baby, and I think it breaks her heart to push him away,” Blair says. “I don’t think she’s leaning away from him emotionally. She’s just feels like with Sydney still out there, that’s a danger. She feels like Sydney did this to her because she wanted Yancy still. And so as long as Sydney’s out there, she doesn’t feel safe to be with him.”

While one couple is on the rocks, another is just finding their footing. The end of season 2 also saw Quinn (Minka Kelly) and Staten (Josh Duhamel) promise forever to each other after she nearly got engaged to British gentleman Oliver (Ben Robson).

“She’s always known it was Staten since, like, back in high school. Like, this has been the love of her life,” Blair says, noting that the couple are “fated to be together.”

However, with the introduction of Oliver this season, the showrunner says that they wanted to give both Quinn and the audience a “real dilemma” over who she should choose to be her partner. “On paper, Oliver is probably, arguably, the better choice,” she says. “[He] represents this other part of her life that is equally full and rich, and is just all in, and doesn’t question his own feelings or hers.”

And as such, he becomes the ultimate test of Quinn’s love for Staten. “Like, okay, now I’m going to give you the perfect man — can you still say Staten’s still the one?” Blair adds.

Quinn’s answer? Yes. “I just think they are inevitable,” Blair says. “And so it was, how many hurdles can we give them before we let them be happy?”

But just because Quinn and Staten are finally on the same page, that doesn’t mean that they’re going to ride off into the sunset.

“I always say the end of season two isn’t the end of their story. It’s actually just the beginning,” Blair says. “Falling in love and deciding to be together is the easy part. What happens after that? How do you keep that love alive? What are those other hurdles? What are the things you didn’t know about that person? Like really, truly knowing someone and living with them and building a life with them is the real big adventure.”

She continues, “So it took two seasons for them to end up together, but they still have a lot of hurdles and fun to come, but they’ll be facing them together instead of separate.”
