Ryan Gosling to join MCU with 'Ghost Rider' announcement at Comic-Con

Ryan Gosling is officially entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Project Hail Mary star was announced on stage in Hall H at this year's San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night, and he's taking on a thrilling role. Gosling will play Johnny Blaze -- better known as Ghost Rider in the comic book universe -- for a movie coming out in 2028 directed by Deadpool & Wolverine's Shawn Levy.
In the comics, Blaze becomes the Ghost Rider after making a deal with Mephisto, one of the Marvel supervillains that has a long history of conflict with heroes like Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. Mephisto has already made an appearance in the MCU, portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen in the Ironheart series on Disney+.
This is the third time the Ghost Rider character will be adapted for the big screen, and Gosling will be the second actor to take on the mantle in a movie. Nic Cage played Blaze in 2007's Ghost Rider, which co-starred Gosling's real-life partner Eva Mendes, and again in 2011's follow up Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The upcoming Ghost Rider film will be the first in the MCU.

The large crowd on hand was thrilled with the announcement.
Gosling has starred in major films like The Fall Guy, Barbie, The Notebook and La La Land, and he is joining the Star Wars universe with 2027's Star Wars: Starfighter, also directed by Levy.
